What is Ketamine Therapy?
Ketamine is a medication that has been used safely in medical settings for decades as an anesthetic. In recent years, ketamine has also been used off-label in mental health care. Off-label means ketamine injection is not FDA-approved specifically for depression, anxiety, PTSD, or any psychiatric disorder. It may still be used by qualified clinicians based on clinical judgment, informed consent, and available evidence. Ketamine works differently than most traditional medications. Rather than primarily targeting serotonin or similar pathways, it acts mainly through the brain's glutamate system and NMDA receptor-related activity. For some people, this may create a temporary window where reflection, therapy, and new patterns of thinking feel more accessible. Ketamine is not a cure, and it does not work for everyone. For some patients, however, it can be a meaningful step forward when other approaches have not provided enough relief.
If you are here, there is a good chance you have already tried medications, therapy, or both - and you still do not feel like yourself. That is more common than many people realize. For some individuals, there may be another path worth considering.

What To Expect

1
Before
Safety Comes First. Ketamine has known risks and is not appropriate for everyone. Possible effects include increased blood pressure or heart rate, nausea, dizziness, anxiety, dissociation, changes in perception, drowsiness, and rarely respiratory depression. Screening and monitoring are used to reduce risk.
Care is individualized. Each care plan is tailored to each person based on symptoms, medical history, response, tolerability, and therapeutic goals.
2
During
Patients are taken to our ketamine treatment room where they will sit down in a comfortable chair and receive their treatment either intravenously or intramuscular.
Patients have their vital signs monitored throughout the entire session. Each patient is provided with a blanket, eye shades, and music. Treatment takes about 45 minutes.
3
After
After treatment you will spend about an hour recovering with continued assessments and monitoring. You need a responsible adult to drive you home. You should avoid driving, operating machinery, alcohol, recreational substances, and major decisions for the rest of the day.
After treatment it is very important to have a therapy session within 72 hours of your treatment. This can be done with a therapist of your choosing, or with our therapist that is specialized in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.
